How do I take the tour?

Either:
> Download the different parts of the audio tour directly onto a phone on which you can play mp3s
> Download the different parts of the audio tour onto your computer, and then transfer the mp3s from your computer onto a portable mp3 player or an iPod, or onto a mobile phone on which you can play the mp3s.

The tour starts from any of the three different locations:
For Tate Britain, stand in the lobby just beside the stand where audio guides are for sale.
For Tate Modern stand at the entrance to the Tate Turbine Hall at the top of the ramp leading down into the hall
For the boat journey simply press play once you have boarded the boat and sat down.
For the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern, you will receive directions as part of the audio tour as to where to go inside the building.

How do I download/listen to the tour? Or I am having problems downloading the tour...

Take the tour by downloading the audio files on to your own personal audio player that you can take with you inside the galleries.

Tate á Tate is available to downland for free at BandCamp and SoundCloud, or for a small charge on iTunes. Once downloaded on to your phone simply stick in some earphones and press play; or on computers transfer the audio files to an iPod or mp3 player, or alternatively burn a cd and play on a personal cd player.

Files: mp3 or wav.?
Choose to download the files in the format suited to your computer or phone. For Macs or iPhones, download mp3 files. For PCs and Android smartphones, download wav. files.

Unfortunately iTunes prevents free downloads; to download the tour for free follow the BandCamp or SoundCloud links on this page.

Do I have to be in London/at the Tate to do the audio tour?

Tate á Tate has been designed to listen to in the three specific sites, but that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy them in other locations or circumstances. We also hope that many people in other parts of the world, particularly those communities impacted by BP's operations can appreciate the sound pieces without having to actually be physically present in any of the three sites.

Do I have to do the tour in a particular direction?

The audio tour can be taken in either direction:
Tate Britain > Boat > Tate Modern, or
Tate Modern > Boat > Tate Britain

Top

Do I have to do all three parts of the audio tour in one go?

No, the tour is designed so that each piece can be enjoyed as an individual section. You can do one or two parts, or all three as you choose or have time for.

How long does the complete audio tour take to complete?

The Tate Britain part of the tour is 46 minutes long. The Tate Boat is 19 minutes long. The Tate Modern part of the audio tour is 42 minutes long.

If you are planning on undertaking the entire tour in one go, we recommend that you look at the time table of the boats going in between the Tates, and start your first section of the tour with enough time to comfortably catch a boat that is timed to depart after you have finished the first section of your tour.

The Tate Modern tour has some sections in which you pause the tour while you are travelling from one section of the building to the next. We recommend that you factor in a further ten minutes for these pauses.
